For practically my entire life, I have been going to school. It was not until I read The Game of School that I realized that things like this actually happen. Looking back on my experiences now, I can pick out who exactly took part in this game. I had never really realized this before reading the story. For me, I was never one of these students. In fact, my mom still makes fun of me to this day for being a “goody two shoes.” I was always so afraid of not doing my homework; I was convinced that if I did not do my homework, I would fail out of school. While I do not remember kids simply not doing all of the reading or answering all of the questions for homework in elementary school, I definitely do for middle school. I was surprised when the chapter said that elementary school kids do this. I volunteered in a elementary school last year, and from what I saw, the kids just about always did their homework. Maybe it all starts at a certain grade. Since I was with a younger grade, they just did not realize that they could maybe get away with this. In middle and high school, I knew a good amount of people who would try to swing by on just the bare minimum. I do not understand how these people do this. More importantly, I cannot see how the teachers just let this happen. If and when I do become a teacher, I am determined to not give in to the game of school.
